What Is the Maize Yield Calculator?
A maize yield calculator estimates the yield of maize (the international term for corn) using either US units (bushels per acre) or metric units (tonnes per hectare). While US farmers say 'corn' and measure in bushels, most of the world says 'maize' and measures in metric tonnes per hectare. One bushel of corn = 25.4 kg = 0.0254 metric tonnes. One acre = 0.4047 hectares. So 200 bu/ac = 11.7 tonnes/hectare. This calculator handles both measurement systems, making it useful for farmers, agronomists, and agricultural researchers worldwide. The underlying yield estimation method is the same USDA ear count method, just with different output units.
Formula & Method
Maize yield (bu/ac) = (Ears × Rows × Kernels) ÷ 90,000 × Moisture factor. Convert to metric: tonnes/hectare = bu/ac × 0.06298. For example, 180 bu/ac = 11.34 tonnes/hectare. Average global maize yield is about 5.8 tonnes/hectare; US average is 11.1 tonnes/hectare (177 bu/ac).

- Grain moisture — use a moisture tester. If unknown, enter 15.5% (the standard).
